That your petitioners submit that under the present system

a Lance Sergeant has to continue drawing the same day as when a Constable, for three years. That under the present scheme if a Constable is promoted to Sergeant, or a Sergeant to Inspector, after about 16 to 18 years service, it is hardly possible for him to attain the maximum pension of that rank by the time he has completed 25 years service, owing to the slowness of promotion. That a man promoted to First Class Inspector draws about 825 a month less than a man on the dollar salary, for three years. That a man promoted to First Class Inspector has under the present scheme to serve six years before he can claim the maximum pension

of his rank.

3. That the pension regulations be amended by striking out the words "On attaining the age of forty-five years", and that pen- -sions be calculated equal to one-half pay after completing fifteen years service, increasing by one sixtieth for every additional year's service completed.

That your Petitioners claim that fifteen years Police Ser- -vice in a climate like Hongkong, in narrow hot streets, where plague and small-pox are annual visitors, and where the obnoxious conditions prevailing after midnight, and which is knownonly to men whose duty takes them out after midnight, is the equal of, and is as trying as twenty-five years service in a home Force.

That the Metropolitan Police, London, after completing 25

years service are granted a pension equal to two thirds of their

pay, and that the pension of a Member of tnis Force who retires
